H1N1 struck our town
We live in a small community in Minnesota, and in the last few weeks the h1n1 flu has run through in a wave. I came down with it and went to the ER for fluids, while there they also discovered that my potassium was low and gave me that as well. After being sick for some time, if turned into bronchitis, lucky me.
During this time, there were between 100-250 kids missing from school on any given day. The best thing would have een for the school to shut down, sanitize everything, and reopen the following week.
Along with this this, there was also was strep, mono, and bronchitis.
I'm now ready for the sunny spring weather! bring it on!

Job Interview
I have an internal job interview for a better position.
I haven't interviewed for 6+ years so I am reading "What Color is Your Parachute? 2012". This is a interesting book. It has you really looking into what you want to do with your work life, and how to design to get there.
If anyone else out there is currently out of work, looking for new work, looking to improve yourself, check out this book and get a new perspective.

Unfriending
Well, it happened. I was unfriended by someone. Well more than one, but this one has me baffled. The first time it happened, I was a little put out, but then realized that we weren’t really friends, but more like we knew each other and it was fun to read her statuses, but understood that maybe she didn’t want to read mine. Totally cool with that.
But this one threw me for a loop. We were really close in school. We did drift apart after that, but then so many people do after school. I guess once we connected on facebook, we didn’t really talk much, but it was nice to keep up to date with the status updates that would go by.
I must just be reading too much into it! Get a life, like we used to say in high school!

President's day
I wonder what our founding father would thing of America today? With our technology and population would they be amazed at our debt? Would they be surprized that China, Japan, and Germany own such a large part of our outstanding debt? Would they believe that we send our jobs to places like India, Pakistan, and China?
What happened to the American dream of our founding fathers? They came here from Europe to escape oppression, tirany, and possible death for speaking out. They came here with dreams of a new opportunity, new government, and a chance to succeed to fail depending on their own abilities.
Now our America looks like debt, debt, and more debt. We have just put our county into more debt than our grandchildren can pay off. Where is the opportunity? Where is the American Dream?
What would they think now?

ATF 2012
Acquire the Fire. I'm not sure what the draw is for kids, the music, being with their friends all weekend, the messages, or just being able to truly worship Christ without all the baggage of home.
Whatever it is, it is worth it! As youth leaders, we get tired, cold, tired, hot, tired, mind numb, and did I mention tired? But the kids? They just get excited, pumped up, engergized, and hyper! All from worshipping Christ without the trappings of judgement of peers that might not be sold out to Christ. What a freeing place to be for a teen, or an adult for that matter. But as a teen, this may be the first time that has happened for them, and Oh What a Feeling for them.
As for youth leaders, as tired as we get, nothing can compare to the new of a student asking for Jesus to come into their life for the first time.
And that is what makes all of ATF worth being there for every sleep deprived minute!!!
Can't wait for ATF 2013!!!!!!!!

2012 vote
And the phone calls start for "who will you be voting for" in November.
As a registered voter, there is a lot to listen to, and sort thru. I really like politics, but sometimes, I want to run and hide from it for a break.
It is only going to heat up from here until November.
I encourage everyone to vote, but please vote responsibly. Know the issues. research your candidate, and vote for the issues, not just the party.

fund raising
Well, we are in the throws of fund raising for our youth trip this summer to Tennesee We go ever 3 years taking anywhere from 12 to 60 kids, grades 9-12. It is a relly fun trip, but wow, the bus trip to get there is 27 hours one way!!!
We have several different fund rasing plans, taco in a bag, Italian dinner night, pick an envelope, in honor/memory spring flowers, bagging groceries, car wash, and maybe selling pizzas. It is going to be a really busy time leading up to us going.
I'll let you know how it goes :)

heavy heart
Heaviness and sadness is permeating my heart today. As you may know, I am a youth coach at church and work with our Youth Pastor. Well, his wife was 9 months pregnant with their first baby, over due, anxiously awaiting baby Maggie.
Miss Bee went in to be induced, and it resulted in an emergency c-section, and through that the baby was lost. Baby Maggie is not resting with her creator, Jesus.
My heart aches for JC and Bee and they grieve their loss.
How do you move on? How does the world ever look normal again? When do you ever sotp the crying and questioning?
Love, peace, and comfort for my friends...JC and Miss Bee

College Kids
Having two college kids is a wonderful, crazy, and terrifying time in my life. I love to thnk of what lays before them, the opportunities, the fun and the challenges.
It is a completely crazy time when they stay up/out until 4-5 am sleep until 2-3 and start all over again. It make me wonder how they manage it, we all know theat we never did that, right?
It is also terrifying to a mom to watch them go to college to earn their degrees and watch our current economy and unemployment rates and think if they will be in that count after college. It can be a scary time when they are putting so much into a degree right now.
But most of all it is wonderful to see the great young men they are becoming. Hearing their hopes and dreams. Watching them plan and prepare for things they want to do.
all in all, college kids are fun to have around, and I don't like it when their break ends and school is calling them back.
